Unsure and the City

I never watched much Sex and the City.  My sister, friends and family members are all fans, but until recently, I hadn’t seen many of the episodes.  I think my interest in the show has increased because of my relocation to the city, the amount of free time I have to watch TV shows as I look for a job and the fact that I got the series as a present a couple months ago.  Although I don’t always agree the women’s choices, it’s nice to watch other people be unsure about their lives in Manhattan.

Currently, I’m watching the episode where Carrie is trying to come up with a cover idea for her book.  It’s making me feel a little guilty about not being on top of my writing…

Expert’s Guide to NYC

This week’s Time Out New York has an article that condenses all information that every New Yorker needs to know, onto six convenient pages.  Although their definition of “expert” is questionable, the article is funny and offers the new New Yorker a fresh way to look at the city.  The story touches on everything from transportation etiquette, to facts about Manhattan, to fun places to visit in each borough.

For more info on things to do in New York City, check out Time Out New York’s website here.

Hungry for The Hunger Games

Living in New York City, I’ve been seeing posters for The Hunger Games on every block and until recently, I had no idea what the story was about.  Out of a desire not to culturally be out of the loop, I started reading the first book. I was immediately hooked to the New York Times Bester seller, and finished the series within the week.

The film came out on Friday March 23rd and had one of the biggest openings in box office history grossing almost $153 million.  Though some viewers have expressed their concern with certain character’s skin color (read the article here), you can’t open a newspaper, magazine without seeing something related to The Hunger Games.

A nice tie-in is that the film’s Producer, Jon Kilik, was also a graduate from the University of Vermont.  Over the past week, he has returned to the state and people have been freaking out.  Read more about his visit here, here, and here.

Passing around passwords

Job seekers are getting asked for their Facebook passwords by employers, according to an article written by the Associated Press. Since so many people have privatized their accounts on various social networking sites, employers are asking potential employees to log onto their accounts during the interview so that they can learn more about them.   Even though many have questioned the legality of this practice, some job seekers feel pressured to provide the information. I know some people who have stopped using Facebook because they don’t want it to interfere with their job search.
